Overnight leader R. Nachimuthu secured the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Sabah Closed Championship title today with a disciplined performance of exciting and precision golf.
The veteran player and multiple winners on Tour shot a three-under 69 to move to 11-under 277 and a three-shot victory at Sabah Golf & Country Club.
It was a telling display by Nachimuthu who was bogey-free in a last round that had Nicholas Fung shoot a 71 and finish second on eight-under 280.
Ben Leong and S, Siva Chandhran carded 68 and 71, respectively to end the RM180,000 tournament joint third on four-under 284.
Kemarol Baharin (69) and Sukree Othman (74), who shot a tournament low 66 in the third round, were tied for fifth on three-under 285.
Pleased with his triumph, Nachimuthu said he was happy to have won a tournament where the competition was tough.
"I am also happy that I have improved on last weekend's performance where I finished third in the I&P Match Play Championship.
"I hit the ball well this week and I putted well like in the last two rounds last week. As I said I have been working extra hard on my putting and it seems to be paying off."
The next PGM event is the MNRB Sarawak Championship (ADT) at Kelab Golf Sarawak in Kuching, Sarawak from 17-20 August 2016.
